Whittier gave the whole cruising tradition its name, and Uptown around Greenleaf still gets ridden slowly on a weekend evening. Directly above the city, Turnbull Canyon and the Puente Hills give you a genuine canyon road inside the city limits, and the 605 handles distance. Very few places on this list put a heritage boulevard, a canyon and a freeway within ten minutes of each other, and a bagger based here will use all three in a single weekend.
AMS Pods start at $649 a pair. Chrome or gloss, crash-bar bracket and screws included, built to order in-house, about three weeks. Nothing gets invented beyond $649 a pair — the rest of a build is quoted on your bike at the counter. A full bagger build is usually up to about ten business days in the shop.
Richard makes them in Carson, in-house since 2003 and in the trade since 1998. Hertz Neo goes inside — small neodymium magnet, weatherproof, clear at volume. Street Glide and Road Glide take a fairing amplifier and a tank pull so the bike reads clean rolling Greenleaf. On a Road King the pods carry the job and the amplifier lives in a bag on a carpeted board with an AMS quick disconnect. Where the bags are doing bass, that is cut lids, concave drilling, carpeted spacers, inverted speakers, soldered quick disconnects and lock ties.
Street Glide, Road Glide and Road King. Harley radios in the shop are Diamond Audio, plus Sony and Soundstream. A bike that gets ridden in Uptown is looked at properly by people who know what they are looking at, and the bag interiors and the wiring routing are where that inspection actually lands rather than on the badge on the speaker.
Turnbull and Greenleaf are the same bike on the same weekend and they want opposite things, which is why so many Whittier riders end up with a system they only half use. Canyon riding needs output that gets through a full helmet at speed; the Boulevard needs restraint at fifteen miles an hour among people. Trying to reach both by turning a distant source up and down means one end is always wrong. Putting the source close to your ear moves both ends into a range where a single setup is genuinely good at each.
One bike that works on Turnbull in the morning and on Greenleaf in the evening. Bag interiors and wiring routing finished for people who know what they are looking at. Weatherproof pods. Nothing showing along the frame. Bags that come off in seconds. And a finish that survives being parked where people stop to look.
Whittier Boulevard or Painter to the 605 south, then the 105 west — 16.7 miles, thirty to thirty-five minutes. AMS Pods from $649 a pair, chrome or gloss, bracket and screws included, about three weeks built to order. Canyon and Boulevard in one setup.
Same bay, same trip. Car audio is LA Car Beats at lacarbeats.com — a lowrider or a classic with Boulevard heritage keeps its period dash. Window tint is LA Car Tint at lacartint.com — 3M Authorized Dealer, hand-cut on a glass board. Vehicle security is LA Car Alarm at lacaralarm.com — a restored car in a hill-neighbourhood driveway.
Monday through Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Sunday closed, walk-ins welcome. Pods are about three weeks built to order, so the first visit is a measurement and a conversation. Nick writes the quote, Zack runs the floor. A Payment Plan is available at the counter once the bike is quoted. Google shows 4.8 from 654 reviews.
