Hacienda Road itself is a good motorcycle road and Carbon Canyon is a short run east, which makes the Heights genuinely well placed for riding. The awkward part is at home: gravel and decomposed granite driveways, long private roads and bikes that are frequently parked outside or under a cover rather than in a sealed garage. Dust and grit are a daily factor here in a way they are not in a city. There is also almost no street lighting and very little traffic up here, which makes an early ride out genuinely quiet — and makes a bike that broadcasts at low speed obvious to every house on the road down.
