Pasadena to Avalon is 28.6 miles. Colorado Boulevard or Fair Oaks Avenue down to the 110 Harbor Freeway south, then Avalon. Forty to fifty minutes. On a bagger the Arroyo Seco section of the 110 deserves respect — the lanes are narrow, the ramps are nineteen-thirties short, and the surface is grooved concrete that moves a heavy bike around. Pasadena riders have the best road on this entire list sitting directly above them. Angeles Crest Highway starts at the top of town and runs for sixty miles through the San Gabriels, and it is the reason a Pasadena bagger gets ridden hard rather than polished. That is also exactly where stock Harley audio stops existing. A fairing speaker is fighting wind noise that climbs with speed, a full-face or modular helmet that blocks most of what is left, and elevation changes that make you keep reaching for volume you do not have. By the time you are above Clear Creek you have given up and turned it off.

On a Street Glide or Road Glide the build includes a fairing amplifier and a tank pull — that is how the wiring gets run properly instead of zip-tied along the frame. On a Road King there is no fairing, so the pods carry the whole job and the amplifier lives in a bag on a carpeted board with an AMS quick disconnect, so the bag still comes off in seconds.

The advice a Pasadena rider usually gets first is to buy bigger fairing speakers and more amplifier power. The pods are weatherproof so a surprise afternoon shower on the Crest is not a problem. The bags still come off without tools if the amplifier went in a bag.
