The 110 south out of Exposition Park is the old Harbor Freeway alignment — narrow lanes, walls close on both sides and short ramps, which makes it one of the loudest and least comfortable freeways in the county on a bagger. Figueroa is the alternative and it runs the same direction all the way down to Carson, which is a genuinely pleasant surface ride. Most riders here end up doing one of the two depending on the day. The park itself changes the picture on event days — the Coliseum and the museums fill Figueroa and Vermont with people on foot, and a bagger crossing that on a Saturday afternoon is moving at walking pace among crowds for several blocks at a time.

The angle on the crash bar gets set with you sitting on the bike, which on a walled freeway matters more than it does elsewhere because a few degrees off aim means more of the sound leaves the bike and comes back off the concrete.

The 110 is walled, which does something people do not expect: it reflects sound back at you rather than letting it disperse, and that makes everything harsher rather than louder. Turning a fairing system up in that environment produces a genuinely unpleasant result. Pods work because the sound is arriving from close range and does not need to be at a level that then gets thrown back off a concrete wall. It is also why riders who moved here from a wider freeway often think their system degraded when nothing about it changed at all — the road changed, and a system that depends on distance is far more sensitive to that than one that does not.
